My spirit animal is the squirrel. I’m downsizing in an effort to keep my sense of materialism stored in my cheeks.

Hi Shirley, Thanks for sharing this. I haven't encountered a new born or signs of any dead young. Wonderful story and instructive.

I bought you 3 coffees for this one. I like supporting my favorite author when I can. Of course, the price of 3 coffees is probably more like 1 coffee these days.

Ha - very funny.

Yikes- so that's the perfect scenario for what an abandoned baby squirrel does. They sit on your foot, and try to climb up your leg. They become independent rather late. If the mother is hit by a car or poisoned, they are helpless. I had this happen, too, but not in such a perfect scenario as you! Nor have I created such a great story of it. Thanks! (PS- the two baby squirrels in my case were transported to a wildlife rehabber, and did fine.)

He was out foraging for nuts. Got him a big one. (insert smiley face)

I was at Whitman for your talk that night; I remember this story! And the Umatilla grand entry on the moon!

I think you should include “squirrel whisperer” in your bio. 😁

I love this Sherman! Whenever I have an encounter with an animal- I consider it a message from Mother Nature, the Gods etc.

The message for you from your squirrel friend: you need to find a balance between preparation, resourcefulness, and playfulness-plan for the future, while enjoying the present moment.Be adaptable.

Nice to see you found a new friend!

Thanks!

Why not? I love squirrels…they are spunky, cheeky, and look at the world as a playground with nuts. ..both edible and us.. isn’t that a poet with a sense of humor?

That is just effing cool. I went through a spiritual animal ceremony and mine also turned out to be a squirrel. I'm an old white guy who tries to pay attention. The squirrels don't care.

There is a squirrel on the tree outside my apartment right now. Is that your spirit animal talking to me? Because what are the odds that I would open your newsletter while watching the squirrel on the tree?
