It is such a pleasure to hear you read your wonderful (invented form) poems to me. I can hear the voice and cadence of Thomas Builds The Fire in your own. I wonder if I can retcon a horrid saying into one with love for you: “The only good Indian is a loving Indian”? Thank you for a lifetime of your sad/funny/profound /indigenous human work, Sherman. Peace.
The last line split me open as well, and you said it well, missing the childhoods and the small people who are the same people, but now adults. You're the first person/writer I've seen that has been able to identify that very feeling that I've tried to identify myself. Sometimes I miss my 10 year old and 8 year old daughters who are now successful adults in their 30's. What we wanted, but you still miss those people and years.

Nice work. Fatherhood made an impression. I especially like “I'd split an ocean in half to lead them home.”
Even when your "light" you're multi-faceted!

Our children, they grow up so fast. Wonderful poems, Sherman.
As Delmore Schwartz wrote, "Time is the fire in which we burn."

Thanks, Alix.
I just learned that I have a favorite poet.
Thanks, Katharina. That's very kind.
Second line:
"One is taller that me."
Thanks for noticing that!
