If you send me your snailmail, I can send you a copy of my one published book about race and class among public hospital workers and the land of the brilliant bedpans and how they shine.

I suspect this movie is one that I will watch again and again. There are so many stories packed in this one. And there are so many ghosts inside of me that woke while I watched.

Just want you to know that I love Smoke Signals and show it every term as do other professors at Berklee. I see so much more every time I see it and that is a sign of great art!

Love! Your story telling in The Lone Ranger & Tonto a fistfight in heaven. That opened my mind to the power of words, reading words, and imagination that words inspire. Thank you for sharing your God Blessed Gift that you are able to have that knowledge of this is you, doing what you’ve been sent here to do. Storytelling, teaching, healing….. Thank You ❤️

I own an original copy on DVD. I’m going to screen this in my theater room, because it’s been a while since I’ve seen it. I also own the soundtrack on CD and that song “Father and Farther” absolutely breaks my heart every time. That whole soundtrack was just excellent. Thank you for the reminder that we once made films that mattered, that weren’t just clever horror films or recycled superhero movies.

I co-wrote that song with Jim Boyd. He sang it at my father’s funeral. Jim died a few years ago. So that song hurts for two reasons now.

I had no idea about the history, but I cried the first time I watched that scene and heard that song. That song remains a universal love between fathers and sons. I cherish it.
