Wish I could be in Bellingham, but I have to be Calgary that weekend. However, I notified my former wife of the event, and she and three sisters are traveling from Black Creek, BC, Vancouver Island, to attend the event.
Oh! Wish I could be there! I can relate to Southside Tracie. I learned about you and those same authors in an amazing under grad class I took at the local community college in Globe, AZ. Talk about synchronicity! Must rewatch soon.
I'm so old, I read the book before I saw the movie. And I loved it. Really pretty new insights, in my eastern US, white world. Ya caught me learning. Good luck, and enjoy the celebration.
Smoke Signals was included in a grad school class I took in 2000 called "Dances with Paradox: American Indiana History and Literature." You were in there with N. Scott Momaday, Louise Erdrich, Gerald Vizenor and a long forgotten (except that it was very detailed) two-part American Indiana history book. Smoke Signals, though, stays with me to this day.
Saw this twice in an indie theater in Lexington MA back in the day, and annually at home since.Being the only Montana person acquainted with indigenous humor at the time, I was laughing outloud solo. Good times. My kids favorite song for like years was John Wayne's Teeth. Who can forget iconic lines such as, "Hey, Victor!", "I ordered two...."Have a spectacular time celebrating this breakthrough film and rich storytelling. I will be celebrating in spirit with you.
Can't believe it's been 25 years already! I finally watched it a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Have a wonderful celebration, Sherman--and well done to all the cast and crew of "Smoke Signals!"
Hey, Victor! What about your dad? Hey Victor, who's your favorite Indian? After 25 years this film still haunts me. I can't say that about many others.
Just watched last night. It was even better than I remembered after all of these years.
Fun!
I watched it recently. It stands up. It’s great.

Oh, wow! Road trip!
Indeed.
Have my tickets, can’t wait!
Hooray!
This movie is due for a rewatch.
Watch!
What? Time seems to warp as one ages. It was a fantastic moment. Again, thanks
Yes, long ago!

Cool!
Back in 2001!
Wish I could go. I love that movie. We’re having smoke signals here in New York!
Thank you, Elana.

!!!!
American Indian, not Indiana - ugh. I live in Indiana. The extra a always sneaks out.
Oh I wish I could go. My absolute favorite movie. My family quotes from it all the time after all these years.
Thank you, Kristi!
Wish I could make it to Washington, but I’m watching it again and again in honor.
This is a great idea. We can all view from around the country. Wish I lived nearer and could go! What a great event!

So many Montana people have always been aware of Indian humor!

Oops--I didn't realize you were the screenwriter. LOVE your wit and your writing!
Also co-wrote four songs, including "John Wayne's Teeth."
Fantastic. You are truly very talented, Sherman. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
And awaitin’ in the wings… “Indian Summer, Indian Winter” where we will learn if her father killed his father, and so much more.
Thanks, Jeff.
Wish I was able to be there and celebrate you and your work!! Best wishes to you and all for an amazing event ❤️
Thank you. Sophia.
I wish I could be there, Sherman. I'm thrilled for you, and now I have a great movie to watch. Congratulations on your continued success!
Thanks, Brian!
