Beautiful poem! That illustration such a moving beautiful gift. “You Want It Darker” one of my favorite Cohen songs. Oddly comforted by his darker songs. Thank you!

See, in my family, it was Vicks vapor rub, not the cough syrup, that had magical properties.

An Elder we loved felt the same way about Alkaseltzer Plus--took it for everything. Miss him

You brought the tears again. If I had had an elixir when my Dad died, I would have used it. He would be over a hundred now, don’t think I’d wish that on him, but I would have loved another 20 or 30 years.

I LOVE this poem. What a wonderful gift to be able to create such a beautiful illustration to share with you in tribute of your moving work. I am curious if you were just randomly searching Ebay for cough syrup and found it🤣?!

Well, Leonard Cohen sure knew how to brighten up a day. Anyway. My mother thought of Vicks Vaporub as a sure cure for my chronic bronchitis--rubbed it on my chest & under my nose--often had me put a dab of it on my tongue & let it melt down my sore throat. Vicks cough drops. I preferred Smith Brothers licorice.

Paregoric. The contents of a 50 year old bottle still in my mom’s fridge still work their magic.
