Thank you for your writing - all of it. I didn't know that you have bipolar. I'm an advocate and author with lived experience. I use a poster with faces of famous people and their diagnoses. I'd like to add yours, cuz you will catch more attention than some of the others. 😎

Amazing. I’ve just reread. The cadence, the story. I love this poem, but don’t want to say too much, for fear of breaking my connection to it. Thank you. CX

Sherman, I just subscribed and what do I read first, the ode...I must admit it took me on a ride, with an ending which I can relate to as a young musician who drank too much one night and was lucky to run into a cop who did me a favor....

Bill, yeah, that night was epic. There’s a poem by Jane Kenyon about the good things in her life that could’ve easily gone missing or gone bad. The poem has the refrain, “It could have been otherwise.” I thank that white cop, whoever and wherever he is.

I also loved "Ode to White Cop." The stanza breaks in particular.

Thanks, Dan! Sorry for the delay in responding. I’m still learning how to run this machine!

So good, especially in our times! How can we learn to embrace the goodness even though we are living through horrible realities...?

I can always find it in reading books. In that regard, mfiction works better than non-fiction for me.

My dad was a deputy. He would have driven you home.

That’s great to hear. As with my cop, I would’ve been grateful.
