Just received and began the fiction anthology. It is a tome! Good for exercising both one's mind and biceps! Looking forward to the reading, chronologically; I'm up to 1939. Glad it includes two of my favorite authors, Alexie and TC Boyle.
Sherman, don’t let it go to your beautiful ego. I was friends with bohemians who always mentioned Susan Sontag. It is high praise indeed for both essays and poetry included the New Yorker. Sometimes I frustrate myself with all these unpublished writings. You have to be modest and grateful. Murakami is one of my favourite novelists. I adored Norwegian Wood.
Anyhow, congratulations on these accolades. It is something to revere and be most pleased about. Take care now.
I have been following your work since my favorite movie came out in 1998…. It was very helpful to me with my lifelong journey of sorting out my childhood…(full disclosure: I am not a member of the First People Nations, but pain and suffering is universal and it spoke to me very personally). Since then I have felt a grateful connection to your writing…🙏🙏🙏
A huge congratulations to you, Sherman—so well deserved! And I am so happy for you! I remember eagerly reading "What You Pawn..." when it was first published and loving it. I'm excited to read it again, and the poem for the first time. I'm way behind on my New Yorkers, so glad you us know.
It is such an honor and a pleasure to congratulate you for being chosen not just once, but twice for the New Yorker editions! I have missed reading the New Yorker so much since I joined a book club and began writing. Now I have an excuse to order the Poetry collection. I just yesterday ordered the online magazine. What a coincidence! I will tell my friend Lynne deLaubenfel of your noteworthy success. She will be so pleased to hear this news!
I'm so pleased for you. You deserve this honor. I understand how it feels for you to get the recognition you desrve...the feelings of unwortness never truly leave. The otherness is eternal, but it makes these accomplishments even more gratifying. It pleases me to be here at the same time as you and to reap the benefits of sharing.
I loved "What You Pawn I Will Redeem" the first time I read it, and it's one of those powerful works that still sticks with me, all these years later. (The image of the brothers sitting by the water and crying "because the salmon are gone" is indelible in my mind, especially as a Seattle (almost) native who grew up fishing in Puget Sound. Sometimes you read a piece of fiction and you just know that it's going to last. Congrats on a great achievement, and keep them coming, Sherman!
Amazing!!! Congrats! Your work and voice are so authentic, and important. Yay!😀
Congrats. I once tried to get in but no so fantastic!
I give thanks to the people in your life and yourself for getting there without the privileges that many others have! You go!
And I love what Robert M Dawson said!
Looking forward to reading for sanity for next 2-4 years!!!

Congratulations!! I just purchased both since I have rediscovered reading more than an hour a day!!

Thank you, Jan!
Well you certainly deserve to be in that company. Wonderful news!
Thank you!
I teach Facebook Sonnet every year. It's irony is the undercurrent of a great piece of writing.
Thank you, Kelli. That poem ends up mattering more as time goes on, I think.

Happy for you, Sherman. You're right--what an honor to share space with these greats! Congratulations.
Thanks, Mavis.

Thank you, David. Yeah, I see men like those in Seattle often.
