Maybe this basil, this garlic, this thyme, maybe this hot pepper, maybe this squeeze of lime. Dear Diane, what if I hadn't canceled other plans to spend the day with you after we'd known each other for only a few hours? I'm grateful, grateful that I improvised. Maybe this cinnamon this sea salt, this wonder, maybe this sweet, this savory, this hunger.
Here is the Substack post that inspired this poem:
I always enjoy your references to food and Diane together... a few weeks ago it was the union of salmon (you) and rice and cranberries (Diane). Great energy and texture! Food nourishes the body as love nourishes the soul. It's a fortunate man who can enjoy the health and vigor of both. The special dashes of spices individualized the composition of both. Sweeter or more savory?!!!
Loved this beautiful, sweet poem, Sherman. I always learn from your reading of your work, too. And I'll now be reading Luke Burgis' wonderful substack. Thanks!
