Hey, subscribers,
A few of you have asked about when I’ll publish new books. Three are on the way, including a book of poetry from Hanging Loose Press in 2025. But I thought you might like to know about my chapook.
Letterpress printed in a limited edition of only 500 copies during the COVID-19 summer of 2020, A Memory of Elephants is a deeply reflective, introspective and confessional collection of poems that explore the mysteries of a mental disorder, regret for things left unsaid to parents before their passing, tribal identity, raising sons in the urban world, the power of love, questions to God.
From their website: “Limberlost Press is dedicated to publishing finely printed books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction by both established and emerging writers. We feel that fine work deserves to be presented and preserved on fine papers. Our poetry chapbooks are letterpress printed on archival-quality papers and sewn by hand into limited editions for collectors and other discerning readers. We want our readers to collect these books as heirlooms to pass along to the next generation.”
Here’s the title poem of the chapbook:
A Memory of Elephants I want God To be an elephant, But not an elephant With God-like powers— Just an everyday elephant. Or better yet, God should move Randomly from elephant To elephant to elephant So that each elephant enjoys And suffers a day of being God. Why do I wish this? Because I want God to be As tangible as an elephant’s Trunk and tusks. Because I want God to sway with massive elegance.
Your poems are magnificent - like elephants.
Thanks for the link, Sherman. Purchased. While I’m here, I’d like to thank you for You Don't Have to Say You Love Me. I read it 18 months ago shortly after my mother died and it helped me cope at little bit easier.
