Why is it that I always forget
There’s a roller coaster
On the Santa Monica Pier?
Today, online, I saw an overhead
Photo of the Pier and I thought,
“WTF? There’s a roller coaster
On Santa Monica Pier?”
A friend theorizes that I forget
Because why would somebody
Ever think to build a roller coaster
On a pier? I like her theory.
Maybe ludicrousness does cause
Amnesia. Meanwhile, I’ll probably
Forget I wrote this poem because
Why would somebody write a poem
About being surprised again and again
By a certain roller coaster’s existence?
It makes me wonder what other
Ludicrous things I might’ve forgotten.
What am I forgetting to put in this
Poem? How about I turn it into
An ode to my wife? How ludicrous
That she married this mess, this me!
At the end of the day, she walks
Through the front door and I say,
Wow, my love, there you are again.
And she asks, Why do you look
So surprised? And I say, Well,
Somebody crazy built a roller coaster
On the Santa Monica Pier
And you chose me yet again
So let’s get on the damn thing
and ride, darling, ride.
:)
