Hello Sherman, The automated Bots, Catfishers and endless scams. They scare me. Potential hack scams on my phone, in e-mail, and in our world. I've attended a couple seminars at our local library about new scams. I always leave feeling both informed and vulnerable. Sorry for your experience. Thanks for posting. I always look forward to your poems and stories.
I am dismayed disheartened.... Why can't people be honest. Those people that ride on the backs of others who steal savings of hard working folks who enriched our country, I hope you will suffer for your self indulgences sonner than later.
Hi Sherman….I recently mentioned there’s an imposter on Facebook pretending to be you. He constantly posts Native-American quotes and photos….and included with each post is a huge “essay” promoting BMW cars. This imposter keeps mentioning how wonderful BMWs are and he even includes the history of the car and other amazing details about it. When I first saw this….I assumed you had an official job with the BMW corporation publicizing their cars…!!!
After you said it’s NOT you, I blocked that account.
Dear Mr Alexie, I sent you a post the other day to tell you that I really liked your essay about grief. The one called falling falling. I believe it was really you that kindly answered me to say in the app here I mean that you expressed your condolences, so fairly simple and direct message and I appreciated it, but then thy started writing back to me and asking me all kinds of slightly personal questions pretending to be you and foolishly at some pointbegan to think that you might be falling in love with me. I'm a rather intelligent person, and I was trying to share with the person I thought was you some very deep emotions and feelings I
even told them a lot about my connection to the Native Americans my interest through my life. Some ideas I had for books or movies I imagined you were actually my friend and possibly my lover in the future.
I looked you up and it said you were married and had two kids, and this person told me they were single so I thought oh Sherman Alex is a liar. He's trying to get around his wife, but then that wasn't it at all. That's the whole thing. It's just a joke. I'm glad I didn't quite believe in it because
things turned out OK my money is extremely frozen at the bank and I was even assured that if the bank gets scammed and sends my money somewhere, they're insured and they'll pay me back. This doesn't make me feel too much better. What I really hate is it somebody would try to break your heart and steal your money at the same time that's pretty fucking low
I feel kind of heartbroken I really did wanna be your friend I have no idea what your marital status is or if you need a lover in your life, probably not . you're probably a happily married man you seem like a great guy. That's why I was so fascinated. I'd only read Lone Ranger /Tonto and I ordered all the rest of your books so I could read them, but I didn't start reading them because I thought no this author this famous author I wanna know who he really is so I'm not gonna prejudice myself yet so I have about 20 of your books now and I'm going to read them all because I love you r writing -got them fairly inexpensively. It's all right. I didn't do it to impress whoever the scammer was on the phone, but it took me until tonight to wake up and realize all I had to do is
ask by the way Mr. I said by the way, how old was your father again when he died ?
a lil test. If they knew right away they pass. Hold in, they said and 10 minutes kater they gave me... wait for it the wrong answer. Apparently they found your essay after searching furiously for 10 minutes. They really congratulated themselves when they noticed that the number was right in there 63 he was 63 after all the pain they said, I said to myself wrong answer, I had read the essay carefully. He was 62 bitch. He saw the number 63 and because he didn't read the essay carefully (or stupid.)
He thought the 63 was the right answer but what you said was that your dad had died unexpectedly at 62 and that because people in your family often die around that time you're gonna have a whale of a birthday party when you're 63 so 62 is the right answer so rather than tell them I know now that they're criminals. I said oh I've gotta go somewhere, darling. I'll be back in a while. I deleted Skype. I deleted messenger and I called my bank and locked my accounts. I'm sorry they know the town I live in so I'm thinking about getting a gun and I am worried about the security of my home All because I foolishly got involved with someone I didn't know on the Internet and it was not who they said they were so nobody knows who they are. My bank told me that my money would be refunded if it was scammed out of the account, but you never know and I'm not sure the other bank I deal with Has the same policy. One person told me your savings account is safer because it can't be accessed online so from now on if I move money into one bank, I will make sure it goes into my savings account until just before a payment goes out if I want to use the checking or maybe I can even pay bills from my savings account but only I can do it so thank you so much for your video clip. I imagine this hurts your feelings a lot too people who really love your work are getting attacked bye some total asshole, some heartless motherfucker is trying to take down your fans. Maybe they don't like Native American authors who knows but they are also targeting other people I got a grifter called Ricky Lee Jones watch out for her another one called Sandra McKean, MCKEAN and of course watch out for that Sherman Alexis Junior oh man he's all over the place !
Goodbye Substack you look like fun, but I'm afraid of you now so I'm calling it a day as a matter fact, I'm going off-line I'm moving out of town because people like me really should get off the grid right now
. Take care Mr. Alexe,, after I've read your books. Maybe I'll send you a letter. I don't blame you at all for this and I thank you for involving yourself and caring enough about people to try to put a stop to it with information. These people are also encouraging people to get off-line you know they've gotta protect poor Sherman's identity so you wouldn't want to say anything to anybody. I bought that for a day or two I won't tell anybody about my famous author friend, but all they're doing is trying to gain time so they can steal your money so they can find out how and they don't want you to look at Substack for a little while because who knows maybe Mr. Alex or someone else is going to put up a video and queue them in that this is a big scam and that he neverpersonally posts with people that he meets on Substack because he doesn't trust it no doubt you keep on keeping on writing is wonderful. I don't blame you for this at all and I'm so appreciate the update the heads up everybody on here please reconsider. Don't meet anybody on here. It's not worth it.
and it took them 10 minutes to get back to me they said hold on that isn't what you say just say it right away so I knew it wasn't you even though I hadn't seen this post I had foolishly stopped looking at Substack thinking I was gonna spend more time with my new friend so it almost works Sherman. They're pretty bright. They're trying to get people security questions. They're trying to scam us and they're willing to break someone's heart and steal their money. I'm really sorry that they involved you in this even to this point of just stealing your identity. Substack doesn't seem like a safe place to me. I'm leaving it nice not knowing you but I'm gonna read all your books so I'll know you someday take care my friend keep it up. You're one of the great riders and I know this isn't the way to meet somebody or make a friend online pretty much sucks as you know I'm gonna look for real friends maybe a lover someday in the real world good luck to all you people typing away
Do you have a green thumb?

On the other hand, catfish is delicious...
Tks Sherman. Hope it gets stopped.
WTF! All the nasty stuff going on, and now this. Good god. Thanks for the warning.

So sorry to hear that. There are many catfishers here who have contacted me. So did we communicate yesterday about Smoke Signals or was that not you?
This is bringing up memories of when Elon Musk was messaging me here on Substack.
Weird. I did get a message from “you” who is not you over a year ago and it immediately looked suspicious to me.
Thank you for that update. I do enjoy reading your work, here and in other places as well.
Mr. Alexie, I enjoy your poems and short stories very much. I sincerely hope Substack can find and stop the imposter.
