The government and the mining company tell us that the closed uranium mine on our reservation is safe but then they tell us not not to eat the deer that frequent the area surrounding the mine but how are we supposed to know which deer frequent that area? "Easy," my big brother says. "Just ask the deer for their drivers license and check the home address."

When mining interests and the Fed say the same thing, you know it’s BS. The Dine have been dying for generations. First from working in the mines, then from tainted soil and water. Deer have always looked honest to me, but they might have fake IDs. Hopefully there is only one old mine on your Rez.
Hunt at night. If they glow in the dark, you don't want them.
Hunt with a geiger counter attached to your rifle. If it beeps when pointed at the dear.....
We also don't eat the fish from the Tri-Cities part of the Columbia. The water's too deep to stand on the dock at night and see if they glow, but I've heard stories....
